The new series, iPhone 4

Getting proof of a new iPhone before release is akin to capturing photographic evidence of Bigfoot. Still, tech blog Gizmodo seems to think they’ve actually got their hands on the new iPhone. And unlike all those grainy Bigfoot images and video, they’ve got many crisp, clean photos and video to prove it. Is this the real deal? They think so, and who are we to question them? Especially when it comes with such intrigue.

What’s new

- Front-facing video chat camera
- Improved regular back-camera (the lens is quite noticeably larger than the iPhone 3GS)
- Camera flash
- Micro-SIM instead of standard SIM (like the iPad)
- Improved display. It’s unclear if it’s the 960×460 display thrown around before—it certainly looks like it, with the “Connect to iTunes” screen displaying much higher resolution than on a 3GS.
- What looks to be a secondary mic for noise cancellation, at the top, next to the headphone jack
- Split buttons for volume
- Power, mute, and volume buttons are all metallic

What’s changed

- The back is entirely flat, made of either glass (more likely) or ceramic or shiny plastic in order for the cell signal to poke through. Tapping on the back makes a more hollow and higher pitched sound compared to tapping on the glass on the front/screen, but that could just be the orientation of components inside making for a different sound
- An aluminum border going completely around the outside
- Slightly smaller screen than the 3GS (but seemingly higher resolution)
- Everything is more squared off
- 3 grams heavier
- 16% Larger battery
- Internals components are shrunken, miniaturized and reduced to make room for the larger battery

Halving Your PC’s Startup Time!

If you are reading this then you are probably suffering from an acute case of slow computer. But fear no more this little windows utility will help you and your computer get back on your feet.

Msconfig is a windows utility which among other things controls what programs will startup with Windows when you first turn your computer on. By stopping programs like MSN Messenger, and all the other junk software which you have forgotten to uninstall, from starting with Windows then you can drastically decrease the time it takes for your computer to startup and the overall speed of your PC. YAY.

Depending on what version of Windows you have accessing the Msconfig utility can vary. In Windows Vista and Windows 7 you can easily get to it by typing msconfig into the search bar at the bottom of the start menu and pressing enter. In windows XP you will need to click on the run utility in the right hand side of the start menu and then typing Msconfig and pressing enter. (In both Win 7 & Vista msconfig can also be accessed in Run)

Each of these two methods should bring up a small window in the middle of your desktop titled System Configuration.

Once this window appears you will have to click on the startup tab which is the second from the right this will bring up a list of applications that start with Windows.

From this window you are able to deselect the applications which you do not want to start up. Focus your attention on the left hand side of the window underneath the startup item subtitle. These are the names of the programs that will be starting with Windows. This is the area where you will have to tread carefully, if you deselect the wrong application then you could cause issues with your entire system, which is why it is important to deselect only the programs that you are familiar with and don’t want running at startup. If the title is not fully visible hover your cursor over its name, this should bring up a bubble revealing its full title.

Once you have identified the applications which you don’t want starting up de-check their box on the left hand side.

Now that you have deselected the applications making sure that you have not chosen any system components, we can select apply and then ok. This then brings up a small window asking if you want to restart now or later we want to select restart now but before we do that we also want to select do not show this message again otherwise that window will appear every time windows starts which can get quiet tiresome.

Congratulations! You have just successfully trimmed your computers startup time! I hope you experience the benefits of this easy to use tool. Remember to only deselect programs which you recognise and know that you will not need, or don’t use, as it can damage your system, were you to get carried away.

Video for your website

An area where technology is demonstrating big developments is in driving the integration of mailshots with digital and mobile routes.

An important example of this is interactive mail, which was recently launched by our Door to Door unit. It uses digital watermarking technology to enable consumers to simply scan an image in their post with their 3G phone to be taken to a company’s online content – a website, video or Facebook page – in seconds.

It could be a video of a chef preparing the consumer’s favourite meal or longed for holiday destination.

Without the need for bar or QR codes, the digital watermark can be easily embedded into the existing pictures on leaflets and mailings. No special inks or changes to the printing process are required, making it straightforward and very cost effective.

What has also made interactive post possible has been the increasing proliferation of 3G phones and apps that increase their functionality. Combined with their ease of use and the fact mobile phones are always close at hand, this technology is perfect for interacting with easily accessible mail and leaflets.

Traditionally, mail and digital have a strong heritage in working successfully together to deliver marketing campaigns with particularly high levels of interaction and response.

Mail, both addressed and unaddressed, aids digital campaigns because it is physical.

In an increasingly digital age it is able to place messages directly into prospect’s hands. Therefore it’s a great media to generate stand out. Consumers can immediately consume and act on mail, or file to refer to and action at a later date.

Furthermore, mail offers a wealth of opportunities because it is very tactile and is the only media able to engage with consumers across all five senses – sight, sound, smell, touch and taste. It is worth remembering that there is no restriction on the size and shape of posted communications.
